Theoretical Foundation: The Transactional Model of Stress and Coping defines demands from an individual’s internal or external environment as “stressors”, which have the potential to create distress in this individual’s life. This model also posits that the extent of the effect on an individual will be largely determined by her/his appraisal of the stressor and the coping resources (social or cultural) available at the time.
