Definition of Construct: A refining descriptor of adiposity that indicates where, anatomically, the accumulation of body fat is emphasized.

Theoretical Foundation: Adipose tissue accumulated in the abdominal and/or visceral area is known to impart different physiological consequences that that found subcutaneously and/or in the gluteofemoral region. There different adipose tissue depots exhibit relevant nuances in their feedback to the energy balance regulatory centers of the brain, with respect to their influence on leptin and insulin. They also exhibit different characteristics with respect to insulin sensitivity, nutrient clearance, and overall metabolic health.
