General Information
Measure Name: Air Displacement Plethysmography (FFM via Body Volume measured)
Measure Type: Scale
Construct: Body Composition - FM, FFM, Visceral Fat
Primary Content Area: Obesity
Secondary Content Area:
Brief Description: Air displacement plethysmography is a means of measuring body volume from which FFM can be calculated. The advantages are the rapidity which it can be done. The disadvantages are the cost and size limits of the device (35-200 kg) which may make it unsuitable for large population studies or studies of very obese or very thin individuals, the difficulty in performing the breathing maneuver to expel excess air from the lungs, and the need for trained personnel.
