Brief Description: Blood samples provide a picture of the circulatory environment of the individual. Because virtually every tissue in the body is bathed with this bodily fluid, whole blood can reflect the physical state of multiple tissues. In addition, leukocyte number and composition can reflect immune states as well. Because whole blood contains several components (e.g., plasma or serum, leukocytes, red blood cells, etc.), many different kinds of assays can be performed using aliquots created from this sample.
