Brief Description: The Reward Based Eating Drive Scale (RED) is a 13-item scale that assesses preoccupation with food, lack of control over eating, and lack of satiety with one reliable factor. Based on Item Response Theory, it includes items to provide greater coverage of the middle to low levels of reward based eating commonly reported in obesity. The RED predicts weight cycling, weight gain over years, and in one weight loss trial, improvement in the RED mediated weight.
